Sexual Conduct for a Fee
A middle-aged, professional man was arrested and charged in connection with a police prostitution sting. An officer posing as a prostitute posted an online advertisement for sexual services for a fee. The man answered the ad and agreed to meet who he believed was a prostitute at a predetermined hotel. Once in the room, the man and undercover officer make an oral agreement for sex in exchange for a fee. The man then paid the officer the agreed upon fee. Uniformed officers then entered the room and placed the man under arrest. The man retained Attorney John L. Calcagni III to defend him in this matter. It received media attention, which caused the man embarrassment and humiliation in the community and with his family. The man also feared that further public exposure and possibility of a criminal record would adversely affect his investment business. Attorney Calcagni lobbied with prosecutors to dismiss this case. After several negotiations, he successfully persuaded them to dismiss the case its entirety in exchange for the man’s payment of $500.00 in court costs.
