Case Overview
Pawtucket Police responded to a stabbing. Upon arrival they observed a man sitting on the sidewalk covered in blood from head to toe. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of multiple lacerations and stab wounds, which were caused by a knife. After interviewing several witnesses and reviewing nearby surveillance footage, police identified the alleged attacker, who claimed he had defended himself against the victim, who wielded a sharp object at him during a physical altercation. Based on the totality of circumstances, police charged the man with Felony Assault, Simple Assault, and Disorderly Conduct. He hired Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend him in this matter. After several conferences, Attorney Calcagni postured for a jury trial. However, as time passed, the prosecutor agreed to reduce dismiss the felony. In response, the man accepted responsibility for two misdemeanor offenses and received an 18-month suspended sentence with probation.
