Case Overview
Members of the Middletown Police Department responded to a call of a drug overdose related death. A review of the decedent’s cell phone revealed several text messages regarding a narcotics purchase the night before her body was found. Police identified the female seller of the narcotics. The messages, combined with video evidence, showed that the woman and her boyfriend traveled from Woonsocket Middletown by bus to sell their prescription medications to a known drug addict. Police also discovered the pills beside the decedent’s body. Based on this evidence, police obtained an arrest warrant for the couple charging them each with Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Conspiracy. The woman’s parents retained Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend her in this serious case. They were very concerned with their daughter, who was being held without bail, because of her recent pregnancy, substance abuse, and mental health history. After several status conferences, Attorney Calcagni submitted an extensive bail package on the woman’s behalf and successfully persuaded the Court to release her $50,000.00 with surety bail and conditions.
