Application for Military Discharge Upgrade
A former Navy Officer who was involuntarily separated from active duty service sought to apply to the Navy Discharge Review Board for a discharge update. The former officer was commissioned as a Naval Officer through the ROTC Program after graduating the Virginia Military Institute. While on active duty, he received non-judicial punishment for charges of Fraternization and Conduct Unbecoming an Officer. The Officer was accused of consuming alcohol with and becoming visibly intoxicated in the presence of junior enlisted sailors.
While under the influence of alcohol, the Officer was further accused of dancing and becoming sexually intimate with a junior enlisted female sailor. The accused Officer accepted responsibility for his actions at Captain’s Mast and was subsequently separated from service involuntarily before expiration of his active duty service obligation. He received a General Discharge. After separation, he subsequently repaid the Navy for college scholarship benefits he received as part of his participation in Navy ROTC. In the years following his military service, the former Officer went on to earn a number of graduate and higher education degrees as well as to become a highly respected police officer who earned accolades and commendations for heroism in the line of duty.
Because of his accomplishments in civilian life, he ultimately sought to apply for the discharge upgrade. After nearly one year of preparing of his discharge upgrade application that involved interviewing countless character witnesses, a personal background investigation and biographical analysis, all of which were presented to the Review Board, the application was granted. The Officer’s discharge is now characterized as Honorable. Congratulations to this amazing human being and great American!
