Case Overview
Providence Police received information from a confidential informant that a man was selling cocaine. Using the assistance of a confidential informant, officers were able to make multiple controlled purchases of cocaine from the man. Officers then obtained warrants for the man’s home and vehicle. Execution of these warrants turned up a limited amount of cocaine, as such, the man was arrested and charged with Possess with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance. His arrest triggered a bail violation for a matter in which he was charged with several domestic offenses from an altercation he had with his sister and also a probation violation. He retained Rhode Island Criminal Defense Attorney, John L. Calcagni III, to defend him in these matters.
After appearing on the man’s behalf for multiple pretrial conferences, violation status hearings, submission of an extensive mitigation packet, and extensive negotiations with the State, the state made a pretrial offer to resolve the man’s cases. In exchange for his plea of Nolo Contendere to some of the charges, the man received a combined sentence of 15 months to server at the ACI, with 13 years’ probation with conditions. In consideration with his plea, the probation violation was continued on the same probationary terms and conditions.
