Case Overview
A man was arrested by Rhode Island State Police and charged with Domestic Assault and Domestic Disorderly Conduct against his girlfriend. The two worked for the state government, but for different departments. Apparently, they had a physical altercation which left her with bruising. The woman shared her experiences with a co-worker who reported them to authorities. Police interviewed the woman who reluctantly shared with them that they had an argument when the man accused of her having an affair, after observing her on her cellphone while lying in bed. The man pulled the blankets off her body, and assaulted her both with his hands and the cellphone, resulting in minor injuries. He quickly apologized and the two made up. Notwithstanding, Troopers then obtained a warrant for the man’s arrest. He was taken into custody and issued a summons to appear in Rhode Island District Court. He hired Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, to defend him in this matter.
Attorney Calcagni interviewed the woman and obtained an affidavit of non-prosecution from her. He then presented to this to prosecutors at the man’s first pretrial conference and successfully persuaded them to dismiss this case. It will now be sealed from public record.
