A Massachusetts man charged in Rhode Island received a sentence of 10 years at the ACI, with 3 to serve and the balance of 7 suspended with probation for possession with intent to distribute marijuana. After serving one third of his 3-year jail sentence, he appeared before the Parole Board. Rhode Island Criminal Defense Lawyer, John L. Calcagni III, who originally represented the man in Rhode Island’s Newport County Superior Court, appeared for him before the board. Attorney Calcagni assembled and submitted a packet on his client’s behalf for the board members’ consideration. The packet highlighted the man’s lack of criminal history, new marriage, education and employment background, and his plans for the future. He also assisted the man with preparing his own letter and oral remarks to the board. These efforts were a complete success. The Parole Board voted to release the man after completing approximately one year of this otherwise, 3-year jail sentence.
