In Massachusetts, the probation service works in conjunction with the members of the communities they serve and offer programs for the betterment of each community, including anger management and volunteer programs. According to the Massachusetts Probation Guidelines, individuals who are under the supervision of a probation officer must report to their probation officer once a week, provide proof of their residence and employment, pay either a $65 per month fee for their supervision or volunteer for 8 hours of community service, follow all programs offered by the court, submit to drug testing and if positive, surrender before the court.

Additionally, home visits by a probation officer can be made at any time and without notice, and has the option to impose additional rules or regulations on the offender if it is in the best interests of the safety of the community.

Probation Violation

A probation violation, or probation surrender as they are referred to in Massachusetts, can occur for any number of reasons, but basically you have done something to violate the terms and conditions of your probation. Once your probation officer discovers this or is informed of this, you will be surrendered to the court, and entitled to a hearing where you will be able to defend yourself.
